Why Supporting Reproductive Health is HIV Prevention

As the Director of Development for Aniz. Inc, my role is to find resources and create partnerships that support the agency’s mission. My work brings me in frequent contact with many organizations that focus on the health of women. And as these organizations face new challenges to their missions, standing to the side and remaining silent regarding bills to limit reproductive health choices that are working their way through Congress was not an option. To Tweet or Not to Tweet: “Black Twitter,” Social Media and HIV/AIDS Awareness

To tweet or not to tweet? That is the question. Whether ’tis nobler in the organization to suffer the “followers” and “mentions” of your Twitter timeline or take to Twitter a sea of “retweets” and “#hashtags.” It’s ironic to start a discussion about social media using something as old school as Shakespeare. And if you and your organization are unaware of this newfangled thing called Twitter (and its cousins Facebook, Foursquare and YouTube), you might be better off in those Elizabethan times. For those of you who are at least familiar with the sites, and have even tipped your toes in far enough to have a Twitter account, read on.

Affirmation of Why We Do Research

Today was the first day of sessions for the HIV Research Catalyst Forum. It must be said the most rewarding part of the day was seeing the diversity of advocates for improving the research for those infected/affected with HIV/AIDS. It is a reminder the faces of HIV/AIDS cannot be reduced to a label, a target population, a lifestyle. Everyone has a voice and everyone matters. (more…)
