EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S WELCOME
Thank you for visiting our website. The development of this site is a significant event for Aniz. For the past ten years it seems that every ounce of energy and every waking moment has been dedicated to creating a meaningful program of services for children and adults facing HIV/AIDS and substance abuse. The challenge of creating something from nothing, of constructing without a model, has consumed my life since 1994. Yes, Aniz is my personal mission.
As the mother of a child affected by substance abuse, I know first hand the challenges that children and parents face. When I adopted my daughter, I knew of her parent’s and of her grandparent’s drug histories but could not have predicted the impact their life choices would have on my beautiful and intelligent baby girl.
I have been able to cope, in part, because of my education and training as a social worker and as a therapist, and because I have availed myself of every imaginable resource. I know how it feels to reach out to my community for assistance and not find what I needed, to not find what my child deserved. I know first hand, that there is little support provided for children affected by substance abuse or infected with HIV/AIDS.
My personal and my professional experiences have taught me that one’s ability to survive life threatening situations is greatly aided by professional support and guidance. This is what motivated me to found Aniz and what motivates me, to this day, to continue this work. I am proud that Aniz is the only non-profit agency in metro Atlanta providing therapeutic intervention for children affected by HIV. But it is my sincerest hope that others will eventually follow in Aniz’s footsteps. That parents and young people will on day have the professional support they need to not only survive, but to thrive. Short of finding a cure for HIV and substance abuse, professional assistance is our greatest gift to these families and their best hope.
That Aniz has been able to make a place for ourselves on the Internet speaks volumes about how far we have come. In 10 short years we have grown in our ability to serve those in Metro Atlanta who are affected by HIV/AIDS and substance abuse. We have made a difference and intend to continue to make a difference. This website is a definite step forward. Because of this site we are able to reach those who use the Internet to search for the assistance they desperately need. Knowing this, we trust that you understand how proud and how thankful that we are that you are visiting us today. If, after reviewing our website, you would like to learn more about Aniz, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here for you.
