Substance Abuse Treatment for Affected/Infected With HIV (SATCH):
A program for men and women living with or at high risk for HIV/AIDS and other co-occurring issues. SATCH provides structured therapeutic support and intensive therapy relative to substance abuse, mental health, and other related social issues.
- Goals:
- Targeting those individuals who are at high risk of HIV transmission and/or lost to care, if HIV+, due to mental illness and/or substance abuse, the goal of the SATCH program is to address the underlying factors that lead to continued substance abuse or untreated mental illness, with the belief is that individuals will reduced their risk behaviors that result in HIV infection.
- Objectives:
- Participants in the program will report an increased knowledge around reducing the risk of transmitting HIV.
- Participants will report knowledge about HIV re-infection and the importance of practicing safer sex techniques.
- Participants in the program will report increased condom usage.
- Participants in the program with histories of mental health and/or substance abuse issues will acquire risk reduction skills to reduce likelihood of engaging in high-risk behaviors.
